The Guild set the standard and is the qualifying body for the goldsmith trade in the Netherlands.The Goldsmiths' Guild of the Netherlands and the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths' based in London are affiliated.Het Gilde is opgericht om het niveau van het traditionele vakmanschap te bewaken en het promoten van de hoogst haalbare standaard in het goudsmidsvak. Het Gilde maakt een verschil tussen goudsmeden en meestergoudsmeden en doet dit door middel van een ballotage. Het Gilde beschermt de titel van Meestergoudsmid bij het Nederlands Gilde van Goudsmeden. Het Gilde en het Engelse Institute of Professional Goldsmiths' zijn een affiliatie aangegaan en hebben elkaars niveau van toetreding aanvaard als gelijk zijnde.

Beverley Breet, previously jewellerydesigner and store manager of Katz & Lourie, joined me there. This was really the beginning of VanTol & Breet, the company we started after our move to the Netherlands in 1993.

During my employment at Sid Forman I was lucky enough to work on many pricewinning designs and major pieces of jewellery. I also worked on a replica of HMS Victory, which would have been 2 years work and would have weight 2 kilo's of 18 carat gold.
