Stepped down from the Board in order to invest more time in ramping up our business in the East Bay. Most of the East Bay is excellent for solar. The climate is temperate (perfect, some would say) and a large number of the residents are energy conscious. The irony is, they have so reduced their carbon footprints that they are relatively unappealing to most solar companies, who make money on larger systems, But it makes them ideal for SunWork, where we only install on homes with $100/month or less (12 month average) electricity bill.

Our mission at SunWork (501(c)3 non-profit; sunwork.org) is to provide hands-on training to volunteer installers to bring solar panels to rooftops of low energy use homes (under $130/month average electricity bill).

Created relationships with solar industry recruiters and hiring managers. Collaborating with NOVA Workforce Board and Foothill-De Anza College District, worked with displaced professionals trained in technical solar PV sales, and PV engineering design to match skill-sets with openings. Facilitated delivery of resumes, phone-screens, face-to-face interviews, and large-scale hiring events. Coached job-seekers in strategies and tactics to achieve career goals.

Planned and helped execute complex projects to completion on schedule, on budget and with superior quality: Led project teams of 5 to 15 software development engineers in product and subsystem development and quality/productivity improvements; responsible for all phases of the product development lifecycle; interacted with customers and partners throughout the life cycle; responsible for performance evaluations, budgeting, salaries, hiring, corrective action.Led creation of software testing service so that proposed software CHECK-INS would be subjected to automated, extensive testing prior to being integrated into the full product. The service freed engineer time, greatly increased testing coverage, reduced introduction of defects into the product, shrank time to product release, and increased product quality.Led multi-subsystem effort to track and reduce product defects experienced by customers: Implemented clear and robust tracking and reporting mechanisms; published and communicated progress; moved discovery of product defects "upstream" for more cost-effective resolution and reduced impact to customers.

Led teams of up to 25 engineers on 5 continents responding to, managing and resolving complex problems and escalated sites for customers using HP's HP-UX operating system: Responsible for assignments, performance evaluations, salaries, corrective action, hiring, training, and customer relationships.Established proactive support processes including improved communication between customers, technical support and lab engineers, job rotations among support and lab engineers, publication of technical newsletters, creation of and distribution of software tools.

Wrote, edited and published technical product literature, created and taught technical classes to employees and customers, wrote and distributed software tools for internal and external use. Selected to be the pilot for the engineer job-swap program between HP facilities: Worked at the HP Boeblingen (Germany) System Performance Center for three months.
