I've been working in IT-Security since 2008 doing offensive security and penetration testing. Over the years I have been able to gain experience in a large number of security-related areas, among them web application security, vulnerability research and exploit writing. I also have experience with industrial control systems and SCADA software by various manufacturers.After more than a decade of offensive security and consulting work I became a SOC director. I have built a high-performing SOC team consisting of pentesters and security analysts, more than doubling the team size since taking charge. I have lead the team from working in an ad-hoc manner to having solid and tested procedures, and significantly improved the SOC's maturity level. This included forming a solid, tight-knit, efficient and effective team of experts distributed all over Germany, all working together remotely.My current responsibilities include supervising the improvement of all aspects of the day-to-day business of the SOC as well as operational and strategic capability development according to the business needs of our organization. I mentor my younger team members, giving guidance and advice where needed, and empower and encourage them to constantly work on improving their technical and inter-personal skills. I initiated the formation of a SOC working group consisting of the security operations teams of all companies belonging to the Bundesdruckerei Gruppe.Beside managing the blue team side of things, I am responsible for running and improving our continuous vulnerability scanning programme, for coordinating all internal penetration testing efforts, and for building and improving our internal red team for extended-scope security testing and adversary simulation exercises. I integrated pentesting into the company's QA/QM procedures and work hand in hand with our product security team and other internal stakeholders on securing our infrastructure and products.
