Currently I am in the Leaders in Motion (LIM) program here at DFAS. I currently work in Accounts Payable and my main focus is working with military entitlements and contracts. I also ensure that our organization is meeting the metrics of the balance scorecard and if not, finding ways to improve our processes so we can meet those metrics.Throughout this program I will get the opportunity to work on different projects that could potentially save the government money, which entail becoming Lean6 Green Belt certified, earn my Master's Degree, and become CPA certified as well as CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manger). My job includes communicating with clients in the preparation of tax forms, help clients restructure their financial situation to improve return on potential and future investments and I worked with a team to promote a new program for clients without bank accounts. During the off season, H&R Block offers courses to improve my knowledge of the tax law that is constantly changing. There is so much that I did during my time in the military that it is hard to give a description of my position. The basic description of a Human Resource Specialist is: Prepares and processes recommendations for awards and decorations and arranges for awards ceremony. Pre pares, updates, and coordinates requests for evaluations, to include responding to evaluation inquiries. This is only a portion of the description. I joined the military in 2001 and went to basic training in Fort Sill, OK. A month after I graduate from basic training, Sept 11 occurred and in March of 2003 I was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal while stationed there. I was inducted into the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Corps by being promoted to Sergeant in 2005. Some other duties I performed were ensuring proper accountability of documents based upon degree of classification. I also managed a squad of four, including training soldiers to assume next higher position, kept accountability of all equipment, evaluated soldiers through performance counseling and emphasizing 100% safety at all times.
