Represented clients in all aspects of toxic tort and environmental litigation, primarily by serving as the firm's primary appellate and complex motion attorney, but also by taking and defending depositions, propounding and responding to discovery, and serving as a point of contact for clients and opposing counsel. Authored and argued appeals, summary judgment motions, discovery motions, motions in limine, and other motions on issues including preemption, personal jurisdiction, choice of law, interstate discovery, scientific causation, remand of state actions removed to federal court, and piercing attorney–client privilege. Among other representative decisions, obtained affirmance of multi-million dollar asbestos talc verdict in Nemeth v. Brenntag, N.A., 183 A.D.3d 211 (1st Dep't 2020), and a denial of motion to dismiss on qualified immunity and substantive due process for individual mass tort plaintiffs in the Flint Water Litigation in Walters v. Michigan, 969 F.3d 298 (6th Cir. 2020). Senior associate on a team of lawyers appointed as “Lead Counsel" and "Co-liaison Counsel" for families harmed in the Flint Water Crisis, ultimately obtaining a historic $600M settlement with the State of Michigan and City of Flint. Handled critical bellwether plaintiff depositions and expert discovery. Most recently, led a team that successfully opposed multiple summary judgment and Daubert motions.

Conducted in-depth research into cutting-edge issues of environmental law, including climate change, energy law, and the proliferation of micro-plastics pollution. Researched conservation programs under the Farm Bill as a part of a nationwide lobbying effort by law schools, culminating a report delivered to Congress. Additionally, taught clean water law and oyster ecology to high school students in conjunction with the Billion Oyster Project.

Represented administrative agencies in high-profile civil litigation in state and federal court, including judicial review and official capacity actions. Issues included constitutional legal issues like the First Amendment, environmental issues like the Clean Water Act, and administrative law issues. Additionally, maintained a high-volume administrative prosecution docket, conducting dozens of trial-like administrative hearings and drafting hundreds of consent decrees and settlement agreements. Finally, advised administrative agencies regarding investigations, in-house practices, compliance with open meetings and open records statutes, and the adoption of administrative rules.

Represented indigent criminal defendants in all phases of appellate proceedings, including drafting multiple appellate briefs and delivering oral argument. Notable achievement: Obtained unanimous reversal of a client's conviction on appeal in State v. Weiland, 808 N.W.2d 765, 2011 WL 5394398 (Iowa Ct. App. Nov. 9, 2011).
