We also coordinate supporting activities such as logistics, partnerships and memberships for the Netherlands as a whole, while the research itself takes place at ca. 15 different locations. The NPP is responsible for the Dutch Dirck Gerritsz research laboratory Antarctica.My portfolio includes daily management, relation management, strategy development, and assisting the NPP Programme Committee. In addition I am the secretary of the PT-REPAIR Antarctic Tourism Research Programme, including project monitoring. The NPP is the main organiser of the annual NL Polar Day, for which we thankfully get the kind (volunteer!) assistance of young researchers (APECS).In 2022 I represented the NPP on the SEES Expedition to Spitsbergen, which brought 40 researchers, 40 paying visitors, and a number of policymakers, artists and journalists to Southeastern Spitsbergen. On land, the inner polar beard guard was unleashed, as I observed and protected the scientists taking their samples. IVN Natuurschool organises excursions to the Dutch coast for pupils (aged 6-16). It helps children connect to the bigger ecological system around us. And it's always fun to get your hands dirty! I definitely learned a lot, not least when it comes to entertaining, teaching and keeping order in a bunch of adrenaline-struck kiddos.Since 2021, Natuurschool is run by the Institute for Nature Education (IVN), an NGO specialised in nature education.

During my traineeship, I worked on four cruises in the Svalbard archipelago as member of the expedition team. We also make sure that our footprint on the fragile tundra stays limited to footprints only.Iy was a super wonderful experience and we had so much fun! I liked to be part of such a closely-knit team.
