Colin Tan is the Director of Operations for the first international TusPark (TUS) fully-owned by TusPark Holdings, China’s largest tech ecosystem with over 300 bases in every major city in China. He advises and supports TUS’s partners in the UK to help businesses, university spin-outs, and governments to expand and grow in the Chinese market. TUS is affiliated with Tsinghua University, China’s top university for technology and science, and was created to help develop the country’s “Silicon Valley” area in Beijing, Zhongguancun, which TUS also represents for the UK.Colin set up and works with Barclays to run TusPark Newcastle Eagle Labs, the UK's largest China-UK tech incubator network that bridges both countries, connecting UK companies directly to the TUS global network which also includes countries in South East Asia, such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. He is particularly interested in the fields of the Internet-of-Things, CleanTech, and the Life Sciences.Colin is an early-stage investor and entrepreneur. He founded Rentlord, a disruptive online property management platform for ordinary landlords and tenants to rent directly with one another (Seedcamp, 500 Startups, TechCrunch Disrupt). He was entrepreneur-in-residence of and helped create Dotforge Impact, the first accelerator in the North of England funded by the Cabinet Office to help tech entrepreneurs create social impact businesses. Colin is a very active mentor and community builder for the UK tech ecosystem. He created and ran the first UK-China accelerator, FORGE, and regularly shares his insights. Colin was formerly a Cambridge Commonwealth scholar in critical theory and philosophy. Originally from Singapore, he is also a published poet and active in the literary scene early in his career. He remains passionate about social causes, especially education, and had worked in the non-profit sector at the United Nations in Geneva.
