The Lab @ DC is a scientific team in Mayor Muriel Bowser's administration, based in the Office of the City Administrator. DC residents deserve a government that asks questions, tests policies, and iteratively improves how it serves the community; the Lab @ DC partners with District agencies to do just that.

Provide technical statistical analysis to help clients understand the workings of their compensation systems and HR processes. Help clients design strategies to remedy potential compliance issues in line with federal, state, and local fair pay laws and AA/EEO laws.

- Labor markets and LinkedIn data: Comparative analysis of global labor markets using LinkedIn profile data, labor surveys, and macroeconomic data for prediction, leading indicators, and policy recommendations (joint work with LinkedIn's Economic Graph team).- Small area estimation and imputation methods (poverty mapping): Deploy statistical and machine learning methods for imputation across data sets (household and labor surveys, national censuses, administrative data, and geotagged big data) to track household expenditure or income at a detailed geographical scale and across time. - Survey of well-being via instant and frequent tracking (SWIFT): Reduce the expense of tracking welfare by developing models that predict it from basic questions in household surveys. The models are then used to design compact questionnaires which can be deployed as stand-alone surveys, or as a brief module within a larger survey instrument as part of impact evaluations, or to track welfare with high frequency or at a fine geographic detail.- Effectiveness of aid allocation: Evaluate the effectiveness of aid allocation in combating poverty and inequality using small-area estimation and geospatial techniques.- Trade-shocks and household welfare: Aid policy evaluations by modeling the transmission of a trade-shock within a domestic economy and its impact on household welfare.- Analysis of partial-year effects on firm exports: Explore how some of the accepted conclusions from the industrial organization and trade literatures regarding the output growth of new firms and the relative importance of new versus old firms are the result of data artifacts.- Trade competitiveness diagnostics.: Assess the competitiveness of the trade basket of a country or group of countries using the WB’s WITS and WDI.

The Data Incubator is a highly selective, intensive 7 week fellowship that prepares scientists and engineers with advanced degrees to work as data scientists and quants. It identifies fellows who already have the 90% difficult-to-learn skills and equips them with the last 10%: the tools and technology stack (e.g. machine learning algorithms and big-data ecosystems) that make them self-sufficient, productive contributors.

- Lead Design and Regional Coordinator of the Social Protection Longitudinal Survey (ELPS): Design and deploy a large-scale, multi-country longitudinal survey across Latin America. My responsibilities included survey design; negotiating the project with governments; providing technical support to local counterparts; and establishing quality control mechanisms, and access and anonymity protocols.- Research on youth labor markets in Latin America: Evaluate the impact of training programs on disadvantaged youth in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Report on the potential bias arising from the use of matching methods on non-randomized interventions with incomplete controls when compared to a randomized trial. Prepare a discussion paper on the state of youth in the labor markets in the region. - Consultant for the impact evaluations of the Peruvian and Colombian pension reforms.

Provide statistical analysis for labor litigation, employment decisions, and other regulatory compliance cases. Coordinate with clients during all stages of a project, and present results to clients and regulators.

- Design an internal monitoring and evaluation system to measure the effectiveness of membership renewal strategies. - Design a multi-year research agenda on the drivers of performance in business-to-business sales teams. - Design, deploy, and analyze surveys on a network of Global 5000 corporations on topics ranging from personnel productivity to strategy evaluation.

- Lead a team of analysts preparing weekly and monthly reports on economic conditions and policy. - Present results to Peru's leading corporate executives and government officials. - Provide direct, on-demand client support on economic and policy topics.

- Author weekly and monthly country reports. - Analyze and report on equity fundamentals. - Serve as country liaison between foreign institutional clients, and local private and government parties.

Researcher in projects ranging from the environmental impact of FDI in the mining and fishing sectors, to the quantification of the not-for-profit sector in the local economy as part of an effort to improve national accounts.
