After receiving her MSW degree in 1977, Renée spent ten years working as a case manager for the Ministry of Community and Social Services. During those years, she also developed curriculum and taught Community Resources, Professional Use of Self, Interviewing and Case Management courses for York-Seneca Rehabilitation Services Program. In 1987, Renée joined Jewish Vocational Services (JVS), a broad-based community organization that helps people from all walks of life to overcome employment and educational barriers. During her tenure there, she became the Director of Career, Employment and Rehabilitation Services, where she spearheaded agency wide reforms, led a counselling team of more than two dozen professional staff, created innovative, government-funded, employment preparation programs for new immigrants and was one of the main architects of Women In New Roles (WINR), a program designed to help women entrenched in the welfare system, move from habitual unemployment through job training to employment. Renée eventually left JVS and went into private practice. She provided a diverse range of services, from individual case management and vocational counselling, to working with insurers and lawyers conducting file reviews, preparing future care plans and supplying expert opinions for their clients. Throughout her career, Renée has given countless hours to community activities. Among other things, she is the Past Chairperson, Education Committee, Ontario Rehabilitation/Work Council, was an Examiner for Ontario College of Certified Social Workers, Chaired, York-Seneca Rehabilitation Services Program Advisory Committee and was a trustee on the board of The Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
