I know that some of the most pressing issues that many of you are facing concern better managing your workplace safety and improving productivity. As the former head of claims and operations at AIG, I have seen a lot of unnecessary workplace injuries and fatalities. With that lens, I sought out to launch a company, Modjoul, to address both concerns in a way that would bring new insights and data that would help you manage your risk and your most valued resources, your employees. Real-time, we are able to tackle two major issues: workplace safety and productivity. Modjoul has developed a connected, wearable belt that has 21 sensors and can model 56+ “verbs” of an employee – running, walking, sitting, lifting, climbing, etc. Modjoul improves employee safety, while providing revolutionary new insights to the employer about its operations.While we are starting with a wearable belt, which allows extensive data capture, our mathematical models far surpass the capabilities of the wearable itself. The new insights that can be tracked and monitored are things like idle time, effective pay percentage, time it takes to exit a vehicle, work location and floor, driver telematics, and a record of “black box” (man down) safety events.

Globally responsible for claims, operations and systems for Chartis Insurance

Led and directed an organization of approximately 4,000 employees engaged in claims, customer care and business support. Managed an operating budget of plus $400 million and over $3 billion of indemnity spend. Reported to the Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board for Safeco Insurance and member of the Executive Policy Committee.

CEO of six utilities on the east cost from Florida to New Jersey, representing over 2 million customers. Responsible for the profit and loss, operations, engineering, construction and sales of the entire roll up and largest business line of AGL Resources. Reported to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and served on the Executive Policy Committee.

Served in various management positions at AGL Resources with increasing responsibility. Started up AGL Networks which is a dark fiber leasing company and Pivotal Energy Development which is a predominantly multi-turn underground natural gas storage operation. Negotiated labor contracts, installed complex technology projects, testified in rate proceedings and received an Emmy for best commercial.
