Heading a section of 20 talented researchers and engineers. The section is at the centre of DTU Wind, leveraging the expertise of all the other sections to perform research and developing industry ready tools for the design and operation of wind based energy systems (ranging from wind farms, wind clusters, hybrid plants mixing wind-solar-battery, P2X systems, Energy islands). It does that by attracting and developing the competence of uniquely individuals within the fields of system engineering, optimisation, machine learning, uncertainty quantification and multi-fidelity modelling. Through the collaborations with domain experts from other sections, we develop multi-fidelity tools that are able to capture the relevant aspects of the physics to model the intricate interactions between components at the system perspective. This enable us to simulate, control and design wind based energy systems of different scales and types. Our activities range from low TRL and long term research, through publicly funded projects, to commercial and co-financed projects with companies to develop design, operation and simulation tools. We also teach students and train industry on the theory and practice of those tools.Our open source flagships products are PyWake, Topfarm and HyDesign. - PyWake is an open source multi-fidelity wind farm flow library that can simulate the complex wind turbine and wind farm interactions at different scales (from single turbine wake to wind farm and wind clusters). It's used by 35+ wind energy companies. - Topfarm is a python framework to optimise the design and control of wind farms. It can explore trade-offs between improving the AEP of the farm, and reducing the capital expenditures f.ex. reducing electrical cabling costs. - HyDesign is a python framework to optimise the control co-design of hybrid plants (by sizing wind, solar & battery), taking into account complex inter-day charging/dis-charging scenarios based on electrical market prices.
