But I started my financial services journey later in life than many of my colleagues. After graduating top of my engineering class from the University of Western Ontario, I started my career at General Motors. I worked my way up at GM, becoming an executive director and being named “GM’s Engineer of the Year” for the launch of the award-winning Chevy Trailblazer. I also hold the engineering patents to the popular Chevy Avalanche. At GM I was responsible for massive budgets and was instrumental in leading many successful, cost-effective programs, as well as introducing many efficiencies that ultimately saved the company millions of dollars. As the economic tides changed and the automotive industry faced a crisis in 2008, I decided to follow my dreams and start my own business—Waterstone Financial—working as a retirement planner and financial advisor.
