    The work of a Pastoral Transition Specialist (PTS) in the absence of a senior pastor is to prepare specific organizational instruments to regulate the life of the church directed through the church’s mission statement. If the church has been operating without a a mission statement then the (PTS) will work with the leadership of the church to create such document along with other instruments such as: (a) bylaws (b) a church constitution. These documents lead to (a) a clear democratic structure of leadership organization; (b) a democratic structure for the regular change of leadership over time; (c) a transition plan for maintaining the organization, ministry, and spiritual life of the church during pastoral transition; (d) and a crisis plan that deals with the immediate or unexpected death or disability of the pastor. Another key responsibility of the (PTS) is to succinctly ensure that all these instruments and plans have the endorsement of the congregation well in advance of the process of pastoral selection being set in motion.
