The Faithful Admiral is responsible for recruiting new members and the Assembly’s participation in the Fourth Degree Exemplification. The Faithful Admiral assists the Faithful Navigator and Faithful Captain in performing their duties and presides in the absence of the Faithful Navigator and Faithful Captain. The Faithful Admiral is usually the most recent Past Faithful Navigator of the Assembly.

The grand knight is responsible for the overall welfare of the council. Elected annually by the council membership, the grand knight must provide thoughtful and inspired leadership to the council officers, the Service Program directors, chairmen and members of the council.More specifically, his duties include: presiding over council meetings; acting as an ex-officio member of all committees; appointing the membership and program directors and working with them on the selection of Service Program activities chairmen and membership recruitment teams and retention chairmen; convening officers for a monthly meeting; appointing special committees not mandated by the laws of the council; overseeing the proper exemplification of the First Degree; and, finally, making sure that all reports and reporting forms required by the state or Supreme Council offices are submitted on time.The grand knight also interacts with the financial secretary and treasurer to ensure the council is meeting its financial obligations to the Supreme and state councils, and others. The grand knight countersigns all orders drawn and signed by the financial secretary and all checks drawn and signed by the treasurer. He also reads the vouchers from the financial secretary of moneys paid to the treasurer and from the treasurer of moneys deposited in the bank. By these procedures, the grand knight monitors the performance of the financial secretary and treasurer, working with them to help the council meet its financial obligations.The grand knight is a member of the Advisory Board charged with general supervision of a Columbian Squires circle sponsored by his council.Finally, the grand knight, together with the deputy grand knight and trustees, is responsible for recommending a chaplain to the ordinary of the diocese for his appointment. He also appoints a lecturer.

The district deputy is the representative of the supreme knightand the state deputy and is responsible for the supervision,growth, expansion, general care and well-being of the councilsassigned to his district. (Section 62, “Charter, Constitution andLaws of the Order”). The Faithful Navigator is the chief executive officer of the assembly and acts as the Presiding Officer, with all the powers and duties incident to such office. He appoints committees, countersigns orders and checks. He annually appoints or reappoints the Faithful Friar and Assembly Color Corps Commander. In his absence, or inability to perform such duties of office, the Faithful Captain shall perform such duties and exercise such powers.

The Faithful Pilot shall have charge of all properties of the Assembly excepts monies, accounts and record books of the officers, but including ceremonials; shall be responsible for arrangement of the Assembly Chamber and shall direct and be responsible for the activities of the Sentinels.

The Financial Secretary’s important role is underscored bythe fact that he is not elected by the membership but, hisappointment – upon the recommendation of the GrandKnight and Trustees – is approved by the Supreme Knightfor a period of three years. His work has a direct effect oncouncil members, his fellow officers, the state council andthe Supreme Council.Basically, the Financial Secretary’s duties revolve aroundtwo key areas of council activities: financial records andmembership records. The Financial Secretary collects andreceives all moneys that come into the council from anysource. He then turns that money over to the Treasurer fordeposit in the council account.One main function of the Financial Secretary is to collectmoney, in the form of dues, from members. He sends outbilling notices before the start of the billing period and initiates retention measures to prevent members from beingsuspended for nonpayment of dues.The compilation of membership records is another of theFinancial Secretary’s important roles. He must ensure thatnew members sign the constitutional roll of membership atthe time of their First Degree. The Financial Secretary also applies to the Supreme Council office for honorary andhonorary life membership cards for qualified members.Besides these two major responsibilities, the Financial Secretary has several others. They include: handling supplyorders for members with the Supreme Council SupplyDepartment; filing the “Report of Officers’’ (#185) with theSupreme Council office; and reporting allmembership/insurance transactions to the SupremeCouncil office in a timely and correct manner.

I attended Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX in 1995 and Technical Training at Keesler AFB, MS in 1995. My first assignment was to the 303rd Intelligence Squadron at Osan AB, South Korea in 1996. My second assignment was to the 97th Communications Squadron, Altus AFB, OK in 1997 and while assigned to Altus, I volunteered for a 4 month TDY to the United Arab Emirates. My third and final active duty assignment was to the Joint Analysis Center at RAF Molesworth, UK from 1998 - Jan. 2000 and while assigned to Molesworth, I was 4 monthes in 1998 and 4 monthes in 1999 TDY to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of NATO SFOR.
