Young women (and men) are bombarded with 3000 messages a day from our culture, which promotes an unrealistic “ideal beauty,” and calls us to use products to lose weight, gain muscle, and change our appearance. I was an international fashion model, but I struggled with eating disorders and felt less than. I was not good enough just as I was. As children of God, made in God image with the divine imprinted on our hearts, we must counter media’s messages and connect to the divine within. As an ordained minister, I give body image workshops that dispel the myths of media and “ideal beauty” in fashion magazines, and empower participants to claim their diverse and wonderful inner beauty given by God. We cut pictures out of magazines, process our findings, view a PowerPoint of my story from innocent athlete to depressed model to mission-oriented minister. We look at scriptures that promote a positive body image and end with shouting in a mirror, “I am a beautiful child of God!” I have handouts about eating disorders, as well as a website that includes links to groups that empower women. My presentation includes a soundtrack of positive messages in popular songs.

Lead worship including presiding at the Table, inviting the congregation to stewardship, praying, and preaching. Seek to engage families and develop small group ministries and outreach opportunities in Hamilton County, create connections between members and beyond the congregation to the wider community. Greet visitors and engage in evangelism, lead new members classes, host gatherings of small groups, oversee hospitality team. Provide pastoral care to those (from both campuses) in the hospital and those seeking guidance, showing compassion and empathy, including planning and producing a worship service of healing and hope. Inspire and empower servant leadership with enthusiasm. Offer pastoral presence on the Fishers Interfaith Mental Health Taskforce and other community organizations as necessary. Participant in local and global mission through giving, volunteering, and traveling to Guatemala. Maintain a social media presence, creating Facebook events, etc., respond to emails in a timely and professional manner, send notes of sympathy and thanksgiving to faithful servants, write articles for the newsletter. Continue a culture of creation care. Seek creative opportunities for the coffee shop and bookstore area, connect the families of the preschool to the life of the congregation. Work with the pastoral and administrative staff, maintaining records of care and finances, attending meetings. Participate in clergy retreats and continuing education opportunities to renew my spirit and deepen my breadth of knowledge.

I spend my time each week planning worship, printing a bulletin, preparing a sermon, and writing a weekly column in the religion section of the local newspaper. I am available for pastoral care and special services.
