Rex Brien has 18 years of experience working in social services and is currently the Vice President of Programs at SAMMinistries. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from The University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Rex worked at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and The Children’s Shelter before coming to SAMMinistries in December 2013. Prior to becoming the Vice President of Programs, Rex has provided direct services to clients in various programs to include permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, prevention services and street outreach as well as spearheading SAMMinistries’ efforts in the local initiative to end veteran homelessness. Rex has also played an integral role in planning and launching a low barrier emergency shelter and a homeless youth drop-in center. Rex has extensive experience working with vulnerable individuals affected by poverty, victimization, and physical and mental health challenges. He is a native of San Antonio and has acted as a strong advocate for the homeless, using his knowledge of San Antonio’s resources and culture to best assist families in gaining health and stability.
