Dr. Santiago is the first officially recognized pulmonary/ thoracic pathologist in the Philippines, conferred by the Philippine Society of Pathologists, Inc (PSP).He finished his one-year clinical fellowship in pulmonary/ thoracic pathology at the Toronto General Hospital (TGH) under the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, and was supervised by Dr. Ming S. Tsao and Dr. David M. Hwang. During his fellowship, he had extensive exposure in handling cases that included tumors of the lung, mediastinum, and pleura, as well as interstitial lung diseases and lung transplant pathology.Additionally, to further his exposure and strengthen his experience in pulmonary pathology, he also did a one-month observership in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA, under the guidance of Dr. William D. Travis. Dr. Santiago is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas and did his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the St. Luke's Medical Center, Quezon City, Philippines. He is a diplomate of the PSP in both Clinical and Anatomic Pathology. Currently, he works as a visiting consultant in Anatomic Pathology at the Lung Center of the Philippines (Quezon City), as well as in St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center (Sto. Tomas, Batangas). He is also a consultant at St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he also serves as the head of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Services.
