I joined the Bar in February 2023 where I plan to develop a practice in a range of corporate, commercial, civil and public law dispute resolution & regulatory environments.I also plan, through development of an advisory practice, to continue my now 15+years of involvement with the energy industry and the many issues facing industry and Government as the energy transition and decarbonisation agendas really gain momentum. Law reform has and continues to be an area of particular interest.

In this role I was the lead adviser to Energy Policy WA, the agency assisting the Minister for Energy in his oversight of the energy portfolio including oversight of the activities of the State owned utilities Synergy, Western Power and Horizon Power. I advised on a range of matters, including the regimes for regulation of the gas and electricity industries in WA - including the National Gas Law - and the activities (commercial activities) of Synergy, Horizon Power and Western Power. I also, as occasions required, directly advised the Minister for Energy, Treasurer and Premier. I briefed and oversaw work undertaken by a number of external legal advisers (private law firms) and had overall legal responsibility for the development and implementation of a number of large scale law reform projects of significant complexity.A recent highlight was the development and implementation of new access and systems operations regimes for electricity networks in the Pilbara. This law reform project extended over a period of some 4 years and included strategic advice on design and development of the regime itself, advice on the preparation of an amending Bill, and attendance at Parliament during debate on the Bill’s passage through the WA Parliament;I also had involvement from the ground up in a number new initiatives of Government including provision of standalone power systems by Western Power, hydrogen related matters and measures to manage the increasing prevalence of distributed energy resources (including roof top PV generation) in the South West interconnected system of WA.

I was part of the Commercial Group at the State Solicitor's Office of WA. The State Solicitor's Officer is responsible for the provision of broad based, high quality legal services to the Government of Western Australia and to a wide range of state government client departments and agencies.My articles year and initial legal experience was also at the State Solicitor's office of Western Australia - starting work there on graduation in early 2003 until mid 2007 when he moved to Sydney.

I was a member of the Energy and Resources group in Ashurst's Sydney and Perth offices specialising in energy and mining related work. Ashurst was formerly known as Blake Dawson.Specialties: mining (joint ventues and State Agreements) and energy (energy related derivatives, regulation of electricity and gas markets in Australia, carbon pricing and climate change related law, environmental products and renewable energy related law).I worked in Ashurst's Sydney Office, primarily in the energy industry (electricity and gas), from 2010 until 2012, when I joined the Perth Office.

I was a lawyer in the energy group at middletons' Sydney office from 2008-2010Prior to work at Middletons I worked for the NSW utilitities pricing regulator (the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal) for 10 months where he was first introduced to the system of national energy markets for electricity and gas in Australia.
