Lead system design and integration efforts for large diesel engine test cells, from 200HP off-road engines to 4,000 HP rail engines. As part of this effort, we procured, installed, and commissioned data acquisition, control, and emissions testing equipment, in preparation for Tier 4 emissions requirements. Lead business and technical development efforts for National Instruments (NI)-based custom control systems.

Lead projects to develop new electronic engine control platforms and update features of fielded engine and ignition controls. One of my roles was to ensure compatibility of new electronic products with J1850 serial data bus as used on stock motorcycles. Key to this was developing a software library of stock ECU communications. In support of the above ICM/ECU development work, I developed a bench-top V-Twin Engine Simulator using LabVIEW to support full engine system testing. This enabled a faster cycle time in evaluating firmware changes, along with enhancing in-house algorithm development for closed-loop fuel control and knock detection/mitigation schemes.

Using timing studies, simulation, and innovative design techniques, we developed a high speed communication board used across the jet engine control system for a fighter aircraft platform. The printed circuit boards proved highly reliable in both HALT and HAST tests. As part of this design effort, I worked closely with software engineers to ensure the entire system could utilize the benefits of the high speed communication buses. We also developed a next generation timed communication architecture to enhance the control system's throughput.
