My goal is to help people obtain and make meaningful use of scientific information. I earned a PhD from Stanford doing neuroscience research in the psychology department, but realized there was a great need for disseminating science so that people have the resources to make informed decisions about their healthcare, shopping choices, or the industry wanting to move into their community. So after working for law firms for a few years (helping the attorneys digest medical issues in lawsuits), I went back to school to get a library degree.For the past 15 years I've been fortunate to work in world-class federal biomedical libraries. These positions have involved some of the things that may come to mind with libraries: I've answered reference questions, performed lit searches, and checked out books to patrons. However, my work has mostly focused on databases. My role has evolved from using these resources to find info, to teaching scientific and administrative staff how to use the tools, to creating content and features to address users' needs, to supervising the people who make and/or teach about those databases. In my current position, I am also directly or indirectly involved with administrative work (budget, tech support, contract management, etc.) that helps all the other work get done.
