I'm adjunct faculty in the Clark College Sciences division. I teach the introductory course of biology to health science majors. We cover gen. chem., organic chem., biology, cell biology, proteomics, genetics, DNA/RNA mechanisms and regulation, and histology. My course is the prerequisite for human anatomy and physiology. In lecture I do not read from my lecture note slides - we (the class and I) talk about the subjects at hand and how they apply to and are leveraged in health care and research. I'd like to think I'm doing something right, as I've had at least 2 students say they dropped other instructors to take my course. And my lab as well as office hours are open to any and all students who have questions about biology, chemistry, etc. I love this stuff, and I love that I get to share it with people and help them succeed in their quest to become doctors, nurses, dentists, dental hygienists and (hopefully) lab technicians and researchers as well - we need more of those. And I know they leave my course not just having memorized material but actually internalized it such that they know and can use the information. For those who know me, I am still a musician but I rarely play bass or trumpet anymore. I mostly play French Horn in church and in a local community band. Go figure.
