Clean Water State Revolving Fund • Performed reviews of engineering design reports, plans and specifications, and other technical documents to ensure compliance with design standards, accepted engineering criteria, state and federal regulations, and best management practices.Small Business Environmental Assistance Program • Helped small businesses assess the compliance status with federal and state air regulations.• After researching the nuances of the processes taking place in the facilities, helped prepare inventories of the emissions of the facilities and ultimately help the small business prepare the application package for the new permit.

Worked in the formulations area cleaning, sterilizing and preparing tanks for the elaboration of various drug products. Also worked in the buffer preparation area cleaning and sterilizing buffer preparation tanks and in the elaboration of buffer solutions.

• Served in a two-fold role as a researcher and teaching assistant, leading research teams and providing support and assistance to students in Introduction to Environmental Engineering. • Involved in a dual research effort to identify sources of pesticide pollution in rivers and aquifers within Puerto Rico and subsequently developed remediation processes to reduce the pollution levels in the water streams. North Coast Aquifer Project • Led a multi-disciplinary team from the civil, industrial, and environmental engineering departments.• Optimized team efforts by discrete assignments based on background and training. Maintained accountabilities with timelines for individual research and reporting of findings.• Provided hands-on training to the team in handling hazardous materials during testing, using Good Laboratory Practices (21 CFR Part 11), including appropriate PPE, as well as proper disposal of the samples meeting regulatory requirements.• Recommended an in-situ treatment with wells around the contaminated areas pumping the water, treating it with photocatalytic nanoparticles and subsequent re-introduction into the aquifer. Culebrinas River Project • Using the EPA-developed QUAL2K software tool, directed a research team in the study of contamination transport for mercury and arsenic pollution, within a five-mile section of the river basin.• Noted rising levels of contamination in the river after rainfall. Leveraged this data to identify a potential source of the pollution – a landfill within the research area.

• Collaborated on a multi-disciplinary team from the Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, and Biology departments to study the effects of low concentrations of arsenic pollution on bacteria.• Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the study involved observation of the mechanics of arsenic entering the groundwater and subsequent effects on bacterial respiration rates. • Eliminated the need for additional equipment expenditures by novel re-purposing of existing supplies within the laboratory. • Prepared samples with variable concentrations of arsenic and nitrate. Filtered the bacteria from the solutions.• Conducted analysis using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry; organized the data and performed a regression analysis in Excel. • Properly packaged and marked all samples for disposal in accordance with laboratory operating procedures.

• Worked with graduate researchers to develop cleaning protocols for laboratory equipment, which substantially decreased the concentration of pollutants (cadmium, mercury, and lead), in the effluent.• Managed the cleaning of heavy metal contamination of equipment reducing the concentrations up to 60%.
