I serve as a Community Representative for San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. In this role, I oversee community engagement and public affairs for Council Districts 2 & 3. To be more specific, I work closely with City staff to address concerns and issues raised by the public and community members, as well as attend community events with or on behalf of the Mayor. Previously I worked for San Diego City Councilmember, Jennifer Campbell, as a Community Representative and Digital Media Manager. In that role, I oversaw the Councilmember’s effective communications strategy, crafted her newsletter, managed her website & social media accounts, and I was responsible for the community engagement for the Point Loma and Midway communities of Council District 2. I am also a Member of the San Diego Diplomacy Council’s Board of Directors, where I am responsible for their inaugural Rising Leaders initiative. This initiative focuses on connecting young professionals from the San Diego region with the programs the Diplomacy Council does, with their internship opportunities, with the international visitors the Diplomacy Council hosts, and with the newly created volunteer corps. In addition to this, I advise the Executive Director, approve financial reports, and serve as an ambassador for the organization. I graduated in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a concentration in international security from the University of San Diego (USD). Additionally, I was a part of the BA/MA dual degree program at USD and graduated with my Master of Arts in International Relations with a regional focus in Latin America in May 2023. I am very passionate about international security, immigration policy, public affairs & diplomacy, and strategic communications; and hope to one day hold a job in the U.S. foreign relations field where I can combine my interests. I was born and raised in San Diego County and I am the son of two Mexican immigrants who migrated from Michoacán, Mexico. As a first-generation child of migrants, I am proud to start my career in public service in the City of San Diego — a binational city — and I am glad to represent the Mexican-American community in the policy-making space.
