Rey was named Treasurer of the inaugural Board of Directors upon formation in 2003. He was instrumental in strategic planning and fueling the school's growth in the early years of development. Rey built the first financial models, budgets, and forecasts used to manage the schools finances and later oversaw the systems and finance & accounting processes that were put in place to allow the organization to scale. When Rey joined the Board the annual budget of the school was $75k. When he resigned as treasurer of the Board annual revenues topped $2.4M. Today the school has an annual budget approaching $5M. Rey continues to sit on the Advisory Board and is still very involved with the organization.

Rey was engaged by the Gerson Lehrman Group, a hedge fund consultancy based in New York, to launch the company's Accounting and Financial Analysis (AFA) segment of the company. In this temporary management role, he assisted the company in defining the specific AFA services to be provided to hedge fund clients and portfolio managers to help them make more informed investment decisions and build an understanding of how new financial regulations would impact the disclosures and format of financial reports.

Rey was a founding member of the management team for the Austin office of SC&H Group focused on risk management consulting (Sarbanes Oxley) and Mergers & Acquisitions. When the company closed the Austin office a year later, he decided not to relocate to the Baltimore, MD area to continue pursuing hi-tech consulting clients in Austin, TX.
