At the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) in the Power Systems Engineering Center (PSEC), I helped transform how our U.S. National Laboratories think about and leverage broadband networks. Conceived, co-authored, and still support two U.S. Department of Energy projects: a) Situational Awareness of Grid Anomalies ($3M, 2019-2022), and b) Technology Commercialization of Advanced Power Distribution Sensing and Communications through the Cable TV Broadband Network ($1/2M, 2020-2022).Conceived and standardized method to jointly optimize supply and demand to evaluate the value of flexible electric load and accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy. Created the optimum load shape to lower the cost of electricity generation, distribution, and use—and to enable carbon-free generation. Every use of electricity can choose to follow the local optimum load shape to reduce electric bills. The optimum load shape simultaneously maximizes the use of renewable energy and the efficiency of all types of generation, transmission, distribution, and storage, while minimizing fuel use and deadly heat & greenhouse gas emissions.

Pioneered the first Optimum Customer Support App. Pioneered proactive network repair before customers called to report an issue. Designed and implemented a high-volume low-latency customer lookup web-based service that enabled auto-triage of customer issues across all aspects of the business from the contact center through field operations. Created the team that evaluated and used RabbitMQ and Mongo DB in the internal data lake and AWS platforms. Created two new user interfaces for ARRIS ServAssure—Customer Trail Map and CSR UI—that each reduced complexity in interpreting customer issues by 100x. Increased intra-node detection of common points of failure by 100x by joining Telemetry and GIS spatial data. Reduced by 1/3 the hybrid fiber-coax outside plant: a) mean time to repair, b) ‘no trouble found’ issues, and c) repeat issues. Provided Cablevision with unprecedented Net Promoter Scores, calls per customer, truck rolls per customer, and repeats.

Expanded RiskView® Business Risk Analytics technology roadmap, development, training, sales, services, support, and intellectual property. Created "big data" risk management algorithms across verticals including financial services, manufacturing, and broadband. Secured funding and negotiated passing ownership of the company to employees.

Before the dawn of web browsing, leveraged facilities at the University of Colorado to create Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Consumer Electronics Bus (CEBus) gateways for monitoring and controlling “smart building” systems—to raise the efficiency of the end-to-end, generation to load electric power grid. Spearheaded work with Bell South, Florida Power, Teletimer International, ABB, Northern States Power, and Southern California Edison.
