Ricardo is a Civil Engineer from Portugal. In 2014 he graduated with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering and specialized in construction from the University of Minho. Since 2015 he has been working as a Project Manager and Site Engineer in Maputo, Mozambique. Through personal interest and research, he came across BIM and he understands that it is the future of the construction industry. This great interest led to his involvement together with a colleague and a professor in creating what would come to be the first BIM curricular unit in a university institution in the country.He strongly believes that in order to find a solution one must first face the challenges. For this reason, he decided to enter the traditional hierarchical construction business model as a Site Engineer. Through this experience, he continues to firmly believe that BIM methodologies are the solution to better manage construction processes such as cost and resources control, planning, sustainability, and facility management. As a Site Engineer in Mozambique, he has managed an estimated total of 30 projects spanning 8000 square meters valued at approximately 6 million dollars and was responsible for a team of 8 members, modelers, quantity estimators, etc. The highlight of his experience was working on a branch for one of Mozambique’s most prestigious banks (BCI) in a UNESCO world heritage site (Ilha de Moçambique).
