Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario (CDCO) required improved accuracy in their geopolitical marketing campaigns to their members. Their old system of identifying municipal wards and provincial and federal ridings was error-prone and out of date. Spire integrated open data tools to retrieve accurate, up-to-date geodata for tens of thousands of members.Spire also assisted the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims department of CDC by facilitating secure and limited access to claim statuses for staff. With status updates from web, mobile or email, the department enjoyed a significant reduction in phone and email inquiries, improving productivity and their availability to the membership.Spire enhanced and modernized Carpenters’ Local 27‘s digital invoicing forms, improving the accuracy of entry and compatibility by converting their out-dated Excel forms with a web application that used consistent PDF printing.

College of Carpenters and Allied Trades needed to modernize its course registration process. Spire built a Timesheet application for employees to easily enter their hours on a touchscreen computer. Hours could then be approved by managers. Included reports on hours worked by category.The Authorized Personnel Database is a combined HR and IT tool used to maintain general information about employees (job start date, termination date) as well as IT information (Security Groups, installed software and hardware). The application notifies IT staff when a new staff member is created by HR so they can set them up with their IT resources, and record their assets for future reference. A report notifies upper management about any incomplete tasks on a weekly basis.

Spire supported both of these goals by consulting on initiatives and implementing new features to increase efficiency and boost visitors.

Contributed to a Grant Management software product called AIMS - Awards Information Management System. Built new features and applied updates employed by ACE to manage their fundraising efforts.Between 2018 and 2022, ACE will invest over 2.3 billion pounds in English artistic projects.

In June 2010, Ryan was elected by the members of the OpenACS open source software community to serve on its governing body. The OpenACS Core Team (OCT) approves major product code changes, initiates enhancements, and supports new developers. See www.openacs.org for more information.

While working for Quest Computing, a multi-national software firm based in Dublin, Ireland, Ryan contributed to a Grant Management software product called AIMS - Awards Information Management System. While supporting computer workstations, servers and network infrastructure at multiple client sites, Ryan developed e-commerce, marketing, and custom websites for public and private organizations in the health care industry.

Designed and developed GameBuilder, a custom game design front end used by 700+ children aged 8-14 tobuild their own computer games. Built camp curriculum from the ground up. Supervised campers and staff.Designed instructional presentations. Trained staff in IT education of children. Liased with parents.
