Ronald Gdovic is a faculty member of UoP College of Information Systems and Technology and teaches courses as often as he can. Ronald Gdovic is the former Executive Director of InSITeS, the Institute for the Study of Information Technology and Society in the HJ Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at CMU. InSITeS is dedicated to the exploration of how society shapes and is shaped by information technology. InSITeS embodies the Heinz School's vision of interdisciplinary research and teaching that equips leaders for the public good in an information-dependent world. Under Ron's leadership, the Institute's most ambitious project included development of an interactive e-Democracy methodology and software with funding from the National Science Foundation. In partnership with Peter Shane of the Moritz School of Law at Ohio State, Ron became one of two faculty editors of a groundbreaking law journal entitled I/S: A journal of Law & Policy for the Information Society (www.is-journal.org). Today, Ron continues his involvement with the Journal as a member of the International Advisory Editorial Board.Ron is an Adjunct Faculty member in the H.J. School of Public Policy and Management and teaches a self-designed course titled: Information Technology and Development. This course is based on case study analysis of information technology investment as a strategy for economic, social, and educational development in both developed and developing countries. With support of the World Bank and Info Dev, this course gives students depth and insight to the challenges and opportunities of technology as a change agent in the 21st Century.

Ronald Gdovic was the inaugural Executive Director of this company, which began as an ambitious idea by regional IT leaders to unify and organize community information to give decision makers unparalleled clarity and insight. Within months 3rc quickly became an advocate and leader in rational public and non-profit investments in IT. Under Ron's leadership and with guidance from the board of directors, 3rc implemented dozens of high-profile projects such as the Airside Terminal Information Center at the Pgh. International Airport; the country's first fiber optic-based Smart Building in a major metropolitan area; the region's first not for profit ISP serving 300+ social, economic, and educational development institutes; and established the state's first and largest computer recycling and refurbishing facility. All told, 3rc began with a modest start up budget and grew to implement projects and programs totaling over $10 million.
