My personal and career goal is to fully utilize my life experiences, skills, and education to advocate for positive change whether it is to help improve existing systems and procedures or establish efficient processes. I am passionate about current and best-use technology and love supporting others with efficient technology use. Most importantly, I have accumulated valuable skills and knowledge of a wide variety of industries. A broad scope enables me to contribute meaningfully to my client's or employer's success. Non-profits, small business, semi-retired professionals and entrepreneurs are just a few of my favorites. I love helping others reach their personal and career goals professionally and efficiently. One of my favorite projects is consulting with retiring lawyers (or other service professionals) transitioning to a home office with the help of VA's (virtual assistants) and working through the "bugs" of setting up a home-based office. "Green" is my favorite color.Personal Attributes: Self-starter, disciplined, honest, caring, ethical, project-oriented, administrator ... a professional, reliable, "can-do" type of independent contractor/freelancer. Old school with advanced, updated, skills. Life long learner (academic, technology, culture).*VIRTUAL ASSISTANT - high tech office (up-to-date gadget geek) *CONVERSION ASSISTANT - database design, administration, forms, flow*WEBMASTER - WordPress, Joomla, e-commerce, LAMP, etc.*ASSOCIATION/MEMBERSHIP MANAGER (design, onboarding, administration, etc.)*RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS (legal, academic, business, etc.)*INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EXPERT (research, need analysis, training, etc.)*FINANCIAL/BANKING/OFFICE SUPPORT (Quickbooks Pro, Payroll)*LAW OFFICE SUPPORT/CONSULTANT (Timeslips, etc.)

Self Employed Virtual Assistant Executive AdministratorNew Mexico Virtual Assistant 1998 - PresentAlbuquerque, New Mexico Area AnywhereI have been working virtually from a well-equipped office since the infrastructure and supportive technology existed. Currently, I maintain and support about 5-6 small business owners; most of my clients have been working with me for over a decade and are now retiring soon which opens new doors for change and challenge! I am looking forward to new long-term relationships. CMS, CRM, membership management and administration, project administration, and non-profit organization support are examples of my skills.

Webmaster, Design, Developer, ConsultingImagehost Jan 1995 - PresentI've been on the cutting edge web technologies since 1994. I am an JOOMLA and Wordpress (plus other CMS and CRM platforms such as WildApricot) expert. I use traditional webmaster tools (Dreamweaver, Adobe Suites, etc.) on a LAMP platform as well as online website creation tools. I enjoy the creativity, writing, and deep involvement in presenting my client's business to the world, including site design, logos, tag lines, marketing messages, forms, etc. WildApricot is my latest challenge having implemented an entirely new membership (licensing) site which includes AR reporting functions, automatic emails based on each "step" of the membership process, and maintenance.

Owner (+Unm Honors Student)Ramtech Jan 1990 - PresentComputers, computers, everything computers! My least favorite part was crawling through ceilings dropping CAT5 cable and I am glad I don't do that anymore. But, honestly, I will miss the days of showing up in an office building and people tracking me down to ask a lot of computer questions (especially when I knew the answer!). I enjoyed helping people with computer problem solving (being the people pleaser type I am). Sharing my tech knowledge, whether paid or not, has been a real happiness factor for many years.
-
Strategic Sourcing ConsultantL3 Associates 1999 - PresentVirtualI have used my technical knowledge over the years to assist various corporate HR and "headhunter" firms. I enjoy the hunt and especially feel gratified when just the right person is hired! I work behind the scenes as the initial sourcing person who then works directly with the hiring managers. It's a win-win arrangement.

Board Administrator / 14-Mo. Special Projects ContractSupreme Court Of New Mexico, Board Governing Judicial Recordings Nov 2012 - Jan 2014Home Office"Greening" of the Board using technology plus standard office procedures was the mission. I operated this licensing board from my office and virtually connected with court personnel, court reporters and monitors, and the board members. This temporary contract engaged all of my acquired skills from financial operations to web technology. Contract ends 12/31/13 with bonus.I enjoyed using all of my skills from managing day-to-day operations, financial and banking, membership management, customer service, database administration, to website design, programming, workflow/forms design, research and more. I also facilitated confidential complaint processes, board meetings, and audits. I spearheaded the conversion from a paper-oriented business and licensing operation. A primary activity was research, testing, implementing online and cloud-based services to provide a range of functions. For example, I tested various membership plug-ins and modules (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal) and full-range membership/association online systems and chose the one that offered "the most bang for the buck." Once I settled on WildApricot, I quickly and thoroughly taught myself how to use the backend/frontend modules, reports, API, custom scripts, import/export functions, and proceeded to set up the workflow, database fields, forms, email responses, as well as integrate with a new paypal account. Having met the challenges of the Board to streamline all processes and create a "self-serve" environment, I am now ready to take on similar projects and/or services.Other skills used:Serve as technical liaison and subject matter expert in customer interactions.Define systems scope and objectives, identify systems interfaces.Develop innovative solutions taking into consideration privacy, security, performance, scalability and availability.Review technical specifications and design, develop and enhance software programs and applications.Investigate new technologies and make recommendations.

InventorWristriders By Wristies Mar 1991 - Sep 1992I invented the "wearable" wrist protection for keyboard and calculator users. After designing and finding the right seamtresses, selling a batch to the Tony Lama Boot Company and individual office people I knew, I gave up - I found out I'm not a production and marketing person. Besides, the patenting process was just too expensive. Now, I see similar products on the shelves - oh well, missed one!

Office Management/ParalegalVarious Law Offices Jan 1987 - Jun 1991Albuquerque, New Mexico AreaYou might have noticed that I am a skill and knowledge "collector!" I worked for a high-profile divorce lawyer, a judge, and a tax lawyer. Although it may seem as though I am easily "bored" with one job, that's not necessarily the case. I was juggling single motherhood, jobs, and new job offers in order to maintain balance and sanity. I think I did a pretty good "job" at that. Now, I'll be juggling retirement goals (another 15 years from now) and maybe a grandchild or two someday while currently practicing the "sandwich generation" role of taking care of elderly parents. An important role in an office is ACCURATE record keeping, filing, updating lists of business and client contacts, knowing when to renew licenses, how to account for various types of expenditures, obtaining proper authorizations and signatures, being able to do record searches, conflict of interest checks, and a thousand other "little tasks" that add up to a smooth running business.

Classroom InstructorUniversity Of New Mexico Training Institute Jan 1987 - Oct 1989Albuquerque, New Mexico AreaAs a classroom instructor, I collaborated with the principal contractors to deliver technology training to area businesses struggling to keep up with fast-paced technology innovations (hardware, software, utilization). I instructed and trained a wide range of individuals with varying capabilities, expectations, ages and personalities.

Classroom InstructorMuir Technical College Jan 1986 - Dec 1987Albuquerque, New Mexico AreaStaying at least one step ahead of my students was challenging because this new private technical college did not have developed curriculum (which I ended up creating for my students). I taught basic computer knowledge courses, spreadsheet application, word processing and office management skills. This involved group and individual teaching, grading, testing, scoring, and final student evaluations and certifications. I also developed and co-developed curriculum.San Diego based private college, Muir Tech, was founded in 1984; Filed Bankruptcy /Defunct 1989.

Instructor Business OccupationsCnm - Central New Mexico Community College Sep 1982 - Dec 1983Albuquerque, NmI instructed my students in office procedures while teaching them how to use a variety of "word processing computers" - the emerging business technology of the time. Dictaphone word processors - does anyone remember those? How about Wang, IBM, and other emerging office automation companies? Most significantly, I met my "mum downunder" and her family and had the privilege of assisting her husband edit and publish his doctorate's dissertation in multi-cultural education. Testing, evaluation, curriculum developing, grading, and certificate awards were part of my job as a college instructor. I always had at least one teacher's aide to help in my classroom.I reported to Jackie Sanders, head/dean of Business Occupations Division. -
Assistant ControllerAllison Engineering Apr 1979 - Sep 1982Albuquerque, NmMy main position was Data Processing/Word Processing Manager (BASIC4 computer systems) and to assist the controller in all areas of managing the business. I assisted with HR, payroll, AR, AP, and all tax reporting and auditing functions. I especially enjoyed being the one who handed out the paychecks - always a great day! My office was, at one time, a sound engineering studio and I loved the design with a "control room" as my main office.Since the owners were also horse training people, I had the privilege of adding "horse stable manager" to my list of varied duties. I helped organize the entire first annual Arabian Horse Show in Albuquerque. What a bonus job!Another adjunct business was apartment rentals/property management. I can't say I enjoyed property management although I was good at it. Keeping up with maintenance schedules and emergencies, renting and leasing relationships, legalities, and handling complaints with tact and response was very challenging for me.
-
Office Manager/ParalegalUtin Law Office Jun 1978 - Mar 1979Santa Ana, CaI was hired "sight unseen" to assist in establishing a new law practice in California. I ended up actually living with one of the lawyers and his wife in Laguna Beach (suffering empty nest syndrome), just a block from the ocean - what a treat! Although it was an opportunity and a privilege, I missed New Mexico.
-
Dp/Wp Lead/Paralegal/Legal SecretaryModrall Sperling Law Firm Jan 1976 - May 1978My favorite part of this job was exploring all of the available computer technology, cost-benefit analysis, planning and reporting my recommendations to the Board for implementation. I also enjoyed creating work flow processes and training incoming new lawyers to work with the Word Processing department effectively and efficiently. I was trained as a paralegal and also as a "floater" working with all the various legal departments and specialties. It was a great job with significant merit bonuses. Some friendship bonds I made at Modrall became "lifelong" and I am very grateful for that. Pat Spader was a wonderful teacher and supervisor.

Assistant Office Manager, Dp Manager, Autopsy TranscriptionistSan Juan Hospital Medical Laboratories Jan 1975 - Jan 1976I love medical terminology. My favorite word was salpingooopherectomy - fun to say, too. Because of my prior computer background, I was put in charge of managing the WANG computers. But, I filled in every position in the lab (floater), including patient instructions and preparation for lab tests. Listening to/transcribing autopsies for OMI was a "gripping" virtual drama; I always thought it would be interesting to investigate cause of death and forensic analysis.Remember the olden days of WANG computer systems? It was rare for "a girl" to be offered a lead in tech positions (a male dominated profession), but I also ended up cross-training for lab manager and took a keen interest in transcribing the autopsy reports as well. Learning medical terminology was a new challenge, and I have always enjoyed learning anything new.

Auditor, Computer OperatorCitizens Bank Jan 1973 - Jan 1975I was chosen to attend NCR computer training in Atlanta in order to assist in the conversion to electronic data processing. After working with a team of 4 to convert the banking systems, I became the sole night auditor in charge of reconciliation of all financial transactions. One night, I forgot to close and lock the interior vaults and was met outside the bank doors by an undercover police officer wielding a gun! Never made that mistake again! -
White Sands Missile RangePhysical Science Laboratories Jun 1972 - Dec 1973High level DoD clearance required. Do you "need to know?" My job included playing chess all night long. I like to share with younger people today how enormous the computers were with the gigantic mag tape machines, the huge "drums" that stored information in real time, and the rows upon rows of computing processing components. At that time, only government installations (mostly military), had computer technology. We made chess sets out of everything we could find. I eventually became a real "chess nut" and was the first female to join the city wide chess club in Albuquerque. Yes, I had my fair share of wins in tournaments (even beat the club president once!).
