Sanford, North Carolina

Managed consulting engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental services, construction testing and special inspections. The territory was North Carolina and South Carolina, but much work focused on Military work at Ft. Bragg. Became involved in the military community at Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, communicating with clients and marketing to new clientele. Responsibilities included business development strategic planning, marketing planning, branch planning, and human resources.

Mr. Craig managed consulting engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental services, construction testing and special inspections. Grew the office from about 32 personnel to about 57 personnel over three years, while improving total quality and resolving numerous large lawsuits from the past. Responsibilities included business development strategic planning, marketing planning, branch planning, participating on corporate strategic committees, hiring, firing and human resources. Several new services area were identified, pursued and accomplished. Managed the consulting engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental services, construction testing and special inspections. This went from a startup company with three employees to an operation of 47 employees in three years. The entire operation was then sold to a national engineering firm and continued to manage the operation for the new company for a few years. The operation was a successful engineering company with three offices in Arizona including Tempe, Flagstaff, and Lake Havasu City. Submitted and obtained approval of AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) in getting certified as a quality laboratory. Mr. Craig was involved in community, communicating with clients and marketing to clientele from the architectural/engineer community, government, large industry, the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.One of the focuses of the business was pursuing highway projects for the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. At that time, we had three full time laboratory trailers that were fully equipped and on full time highway projects.

Grew the office from about 49 personnel to about 92 personnel over three years of tough economic times, while improving total quality, resolving numerous large lawsuits from the past, and developing new service lines. While growing the operation and adding service lines, additional office spaces were designed and acquired. We retained the services of one of the top design firms in the city develop appropriate space and to help us get in front of a specific clientele. We developed specialized laboratory testing capabilities to be utilized by highway projects throughout the United States, where there were limited providers. The Raleigh operation was a relatively large office for the consulting engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, facilities, environmental services, and construction testing. As the Chief Engineer, responsibilities included total quality of the work product provided by the office and for personally managing any projects outside of the normal core business areas.As operations manager, responsibilities included managing the newer service areas which included Facilities Engineering, Roofing and Asbestos Services areas. This required developing services outside of the companies normal core business, and marketing these services to additional clientele in addition to traditional clients. Became involved in community, professional organizations, communicating with clients and marketing to new clientele. Responsibilities included business development strategic planning, marketing planning, branch planning, participating on corporate strategic committees and human resources. Also, subordinate managers included geotechnical engineering, facilities engineering, environmental services and construction engineering and testing.

Have combined the early work history with MACTEC to show early training.First in Charlotte, NC, then in Greensboro, NC, then back in Charlotte, NC. As Geotechnical Engineer, first in Charlotte and then in Greensboro, Mr. Craig provided geotechnical exploration reports for projects including single small structures, large multistory structures, manufacturing facilities, heavy industrial buildings, big box structures, multiple structures and multiple sites. Field testing has included drilling, pressuremeter testing, vane sheer testing, test pits, density testing, etc. Field inspections have included soil selection, footings, retaining walls, pressure-injected footings, deep foundations (caissons, steel, concrete and auger cast piles, inc.).Mr. Craig then moved back to Charlotte and managed the metals services area. He managed the group and participated in projects including destructive and non-destructive testing of metals. Destructive testing included a laboratory for preparing welded specimens and for product testing of numerous construction and general manufactured products. Non-destructive testing included test methods of radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, magnetic flux, visual examination, and eddy current.Mr. Craig started new service areas for the Charlotte office first in roofing services, then in asbestos services. In both of these area, his responsibilities included Engineering studies have included failing roofs with extensive roof condition studies, life cycle cost analyses, and nondestructive and destructive evaluation methods. He has consulted with owners and other engineers regarding evaluation, preventative maintenance and repair programs of existing roofs as well as design and construction of replacement roof systems. He has worked with built-up, modified bitumen roof systems, metal, single-ply, and foam roofs.
