A three month secondment with dunnhumby: an organisation that has partnered with businesses around the world for nearly 30 years and has been using Customer Data Science to deliver exceptional customer experiences, personalised to their needs and expectations, wherever they are – in-store, offline and online. The results: competitive advantage against traditional and new market entrants, and increased revenue and profitability.With a member of dunnhumby's research team completing a three month internal secondment dunnhumby needed a researcher to fill this gap quickly and on a temporary basis, someone they knew would hit the ground running. The strategic partnership existing between Breaking Blue and dunnhumby meant I'd had the pleasure of working as a qualitative research provider on a number of projects for dunnhumby when I was approached for this opportunity. As a mixed-methods researcher familiar with quantitative data analysis I was a good fit for the team, able to take on projects in various stages of completion with minimal orientation and adjustment time. In this short space of time I worked across a number of projects, authored several proposals and contributed to others. I provided guidance in the design and development of an internal qualitative research project for an important dunnhumby gender equality initiative and also drafted and co-delivered internal qualitative research methods training for the commercial teams.

After speculatively contacting a former lecturer seeking additional research experience a role as a research assistant was created. My contribution was such that I will be a named author on up-coming publications resulting from this research.Primarily responsible for conducting literature reviews I contributed to an investigation into the social causes of and responses to the militarisation of fitness training, such as fitness boot camps.This involved exploration of the key themes of militarisation of every day life, focusing on the body and its regulation and how it straddles the public vs private divide. Research findings were provided in a comprehensive written form.
