I was the Strategy and Operations Manager for KPMG UK’s Industrial Manufacturing sector; this meant that I was responsible for the management of the sector, reporting directly into the UK Head of IM.Strategic: I was responsible for defining our industrial manufacturing strategy, analysing the marketplace we’re operating in, understanding our competitive position, opportunities for growth and identifying the key themes that we will go to market with.Financial: I was responsible for managing our financial planning process. I regularly reviewed our finances, worked with our sales team to increase our top line and identified areas of concern for proactive intervention.Products: I horizon scanned to ensure that we were offering propositions that supported our clients in their changing market, and worked with experts to ensure these were tailored to our manufacturing clientsPeople: I provided our people with what they needed from the sector: I wrote our internal comms, ran community events and ensured our knowledge management was fit for purpose.Marketing: I worked closely with our marketing and PR team to define our themes for the year, and to deliver a programme that meets our strategic objectives.This role required me to have excellent senior stakeholder management skills, as I worked closely with a number of KPMG’s partner community. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities was critical for success, as was the ability to learn quickly and take on new unfamiliar tasks or problems, and drive them to resolution. In addition to this role, I picked up an internal project for a number of months, which was to build our Mobility2030 proposition within KPMG. I was responsible for the management of this proposition, which included developing the business case, securing funding, managing our pipeline and business development activity, organising 2 large events, growing the team, and guiding marketing and PR efforts to build market awareness.

I worked on the early development of the KPMG-McLaren Applied Technologies strategic alliance, focusing on the Operational Excellence part of the alliance. I was part of a team of three that developed the business case for Operational Excellence, and took the Operations Lead role during the early stages of development of the alliance. Strategy: I was jointly responsible for developing the operations business case, conducting the analysis and defining the strategic ambitions. I worked with two others to develop the operating model and areas of focus for the alliance.Building the team: I managed the resourcing and recruitment process to build to a team of over 20 people, working with our experts both internally and externally to find the most high calibre individuals.Developing processes: I developed our sales and finance processes, including opportunity qualification and management throughout the opportunity lifecycle. I ran opportunity review meetings with senior stakeholders and developed accurate views of our pipelineSubsequently, I moved into a client facing role in the alliance, due to a requirement for my specific skillset, primarily focusing on developing Operational Excellence propositions for Financial Services clients.Prior to the KPMG-McLaren Applied Technologies alliance, I had strong focus on Lean Operations and Operational Excellence, qualified to Level 2A from the Lean Competency System, with workstream lead level client experience. I am proficient in Lean and Continuous Improvement tools and techniques.
