About Rhitabrita Mukherjee

I am an economist, a researcher for the past 6 years after completing my Master's degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2017 with specialisations in International Trade and politics, Development and Environmental Economics.Being a full time researcher in India especially can be taxing as our industry is growing with us, but being a Hindustani classical musician, poet, writer, travel enthusiast and photographer has actually helped me keep at it and also broaden my perpective beyond academic education. I started as a research assistant professionally with the German organisation SOCEO gGmbH who have been developing quality livelihood planning in India and Africa over the years. I knew within a year, that data based research in LDCs like my own, was my calling. So I kept moving from organisation to organisation, projects that could use my skill and teach me more in return consistently. From Presidency University, which gave me the chance to learn from Nobel Laureates like Dr. Abhijit Banerjee to working myself with international organisations like ChildFund International, the GIZ, UNDP and the World Bank through my work have been the cornerstone of my education and confidence as a researcher in development economics.Through my years of work, I realised that my area of interest lies in the nexus of women's role in vulnerable ecology. Currently I am working for my pre-doctoral research in the Sunderbans Archipelago and the Pulicat lake in India to understand how women are the key to lead the way against environmental degradation. I work as a senior research consultant with SOCEO now and as advisor to the Global Shapers Initiative by the WEF in Gurgaon along with being a visiting faculty at the state university, a project development expert with the welfare organisation OAR, a blogger, writer and peer editor.
