"Stop talking, Start prototyping!!!"As Research Lecturer & Project Leader in the Create4Care program, a cooperation of Erasmus MC and Hogeschool Rotterdam, I lead student research projects that solve problems healthcare professionals encounter in their daily practice in the hospital. Students and healthcare professionals co-create, co-design and prototype solutions together, combining the practical knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals and students of Healthcare, Engineering, Design and Information Technology. As PhD Candidate at Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care, my research aims to develop a ‘touchless’ technique for measuring the growth of premature babies inside an incubator, to replace the currently used measuring instruments for the weekly measurement of body length and head circumference, instruments that are clumsy to use and unhygienic and stressful for the baby. The ultimate goal is a smart 3D vision system that is safe and non-disturbing for the baby, and can measure growth by 3D volumetric changes, rather than 1D body length and head circumference. My original background is in the field of Industrial Design Engineering, with 13 years industry working experience as consultant designer. Since 2003 my field of work shifted to the education of Industrial Designers where in 2012 I definitely specialized in healthcare technology. Since 2013 I focus on design and engineering of medical devices for the hospital, especially for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric (Children’s) Intensive Care.Specialties: Industrial Design; Product Engineering; Design and Innovations for Health Care; Health Care Technology; Development of educational courses in the field of Product Design.
Listed skills include Industrial Design, Product Design, Sustainability, Engineering, and 9 others.
