About Robert Hoban

The Hoban name has become inextricably intertwined with the modern commercial cannabis industry (hemp and marijuana - 2006>). Bob is a cannabis industry leader, attorney, visionary, executive, fiduciary, and trusted advisor. He has transcended the practice of law, as he regularly serves as a business consultant, industry expert, prognosticator, policy/markets advisor, and in a C-Suite capacity. His Forbes columns are known for identifying industry trends before they occur and for setting the tone for the cannabis industry. And his long-standing podcast, The Hoban Minute, is recognized by many as a virtual-MBA in the cannabis industry. Hoban’s media reaches nearly 200,000 people per month. In 2022, he was named one of the Top 42 most influential people in the cannabis industry (Forbes Magazine). He is widely credited for creating the class of lawyers now known as ‘cannabis attorneys.’ Bob is an internationally renowned keynote speaker. And he has served on a number of cannabis industry Boards, such as Glass House Brands. He worked as a litigator across the first 15 years of his career and transitioned into corporate counsel. His legal work stands apart as he established the ‘dispensary system’ in many states through his team (at the Hoban Law Group, the 1st full-service cannabis law firm in the world). Hoban then worked to create the ‘CBD industry’ through innovative strategy. He is one of the first to recognize and service the international cannabis industry. After building HLG to global prominence, he sold it to international giant, Clark Hill, and proceeded to build the most recognized AmLaw-rated cannabis industry law group in the world.Bob is also a Director at Clark Hill Public Strategies, where he works with corporations/trade groups/nonprofits to engage elected officials/agencies to achieve their goals. Bob has worked with dozens of governments across the U.S., Asia, E.U., and LatAm on cannabis policy -- legislation and regulation. Over 18 years, he has served on a long list of national/state task forces on cannabis policy. After his PhD coursework (University of Colorado-Denver), he served as one of the nation’s first cannabis policy instructors (University of Denver), where he lectured regarding cannabis topics, and led a research practicum concerning the efficacy of cannabis regulation; the first of its kind. He taught several international travel courses concerning the global cannabis industry; is recognized as a Fellow at the University of Vermont; and, is an Advisor to the University of Colorado LEEDS Program.

The cannabis industry and its participants have been caught up in a seemingly endless hunt for capital sources, but vital capital cannot properly flow into the industry without mature and systematic risk indicators to properly manage current exposure and future liability.Despite solid efforts to reduce cash burn, increase sales, and lower the cost of goods sold, cannabis companies still require significant amounts of financing to complete build outs and strategic acquisitions. With the tightening of the cannabis capital markets and the corresponding movement toward primarily debt financing, the role of credit scoring, rating, and monitoring have become increasingly important; and will likely be part of the baseline requirements of reputable lenders and investors.CTrust was born of the union of minds and organizations representing decades of experience and trusted expertise across three critical areas required to effectively address today’s cannabis capital market challenges:Cannabis Financial Restructuring & ReceivershipsCannabis Laws & RegulationsCannabis Data & Analytics
