Dr. Richard Warren Jr, is an award-winning educator, renowned speaker, and dynamic professor. His remarkable achievements in the field of education have earned him a well-deserved reputation as a leader in his field. He is the 2019 Maryland State Teacher of the Year, Samsung's "Solve for Tomorrow" State Finalists, and appointed as the Chair of Education Executive Policy for the Governor of Maryland. He spent nearly a decade teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to middle school students, achieving record breaking gains on state assessments and being named as one of Samsung's leading STEM teachers in the United States. Richard earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and was inducted into the UMES Hall of Excellence, the highest honor of achievement offered by his University.His research on teacher retention has garnered the attention of hundreds of school districts who are implementing mentoring programs for beginning teachers. Since 2015, he has worked closely with district teacher mentoring programs, helping beginning teachers find success and gratification while implementing equitable and just practices in the classroom.Richard frequently travels around the world as a featured keynote speaker, presenter, and consultant on topics pertaining to teacher preparation, recruitment, and retention. His expertise has earned him notable appearances on prestigious platforms such as Tedx, Google, and ESPN, just to name a few.At UMES, he founded the UMES Men of Color in Education program, an innovative program designed to educate K-12 men of color to become teachers and provide support for them along their high school, college and career continuum.Dr.Warren currently serves as the Hazel Professor of Education at UMES preparing future teachers to take on the next generation of students.
