Currently studying for a Bachelor of Computer Science (Distributed Systems and Networking) at the University of Adelaide, I am currently focusing on improving my coding skills, and understanding connected systems. Throughout my degree, I have greatly enjoyed working on a web application to allow people to network with each other and organise events, as well as understanding the ethical considerations of storing other users’ data.Ideally, I hope to pursue a career in System Administration or Site Reliability Engineering, working on the back end of server applications. It is something I do passionately, and have set up a few web applications, such as Nextcloud, to assist me in my day-to-day life. Setting up these applications has allowed me to develop problem-solving skills, be persistent when things go wrong, and perform critical thinking regarding maintainability and security. I believe these skills would allow me to benefit a workplace with these tasks that I do for fun, giving me a further understanding of these applications and systems many of us take for granted.I also value automating systems. I discovered Ansible at the end of 2021, and it has allowed me to manage my virtual private servers (VPS) remotely, efficiently & consistently. I've also set up a small playbook to allow me to automatically set up and configure new Ubuntu installations for my laptops as a learning experience.Outside of study, I host a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for friends all around the globe in different time zones using a VPS I own. We have weekly sessions with multiple people, allowing me to be creative and manage a story my players are a part of.
