Sustainability professional with 19 years of experience. Rhys is a Senior Environmental and Social Officer in the Agribusiness, Food and Water department at FMO. Prior to FMO, Rhys was a Director and Discipline Lead of Environmental Social Governance at WSP Environment and Energy based in Cape Town, managing a team operating locally in South Africa and across Sub-Saharan Africa.Rhys has worked with EDFIs, commercial banks, and Private Equity gaining a thorough knowledge of International Finance Corporations Performance Standards for Environmental and Social Investment (IFC PSs), UNGP on Business and Human Rights, Equator Principles, World Bank General EHS (including Sector Specific) Guidelines, ILO Conventions, other applicable sustainable finance standards (AfDB, EBRD etc). In addition to Financial Sector Experience, Rhys has experience in a broad range of services including Environmental and Social Management Systems, ESIA (including RAP, LRP etc), Auditing, Health and Safety, Contaminated Land, Remediation, Environmental Monitoring, and Waste Management. He has worked on projects in the energy (both renewable and non-renewable), agribusiness, ICT, financial, oil and gas, industrial, manufacturing, mining, government and property development sectors.
