Tutor: Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (Itas)

Gold Coast, Australia

I tutored first and second year law students for two years while completing my bachelor degree. This tutoring covered a wide range of legal subjects including criminal law, property law, contracts and torts. Because each student came from a different academic background, I was also responsible for teaching them how to conduct proper legal research, introducing them to the formalities of law (both when writing and speaking), and teaching how to structure their writing when answering a legal problem. Through tutoring, I learned how to pass down information to others in a clear and understandable way and the responsibilities that go with being in charge and the need to build healthy relationships with those you are in charge of. Importantly, I was exposed to a working environment with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. This experience helped me improve my cross-cultural communication skills, which I view as highly important as I currently study and hope to work in the field of international relations.

Feb 2015 - Nov 2016

Work Placement - Political Practice

Queensland, Australia

This work placement program formed part of my bachelor degree. It provided students with a practice-based understanding of the workings of politics both in Australia and overseas. I was a research assistant to a professor and was responsible for accumulating large amounts of data, both academic and non-academic, on debate surrounding the Recognise campaign. This work involved contacting academics, authors, political parties, traditional media outlets, social media commentators, bloggers and land advocacy groups. My final report received a High Distinction, the highest possible grade.

Feb 2016 - Jun 2016

Parliamentary Project

Queensland, Australia

The Parliamentary Project was an internship I completed as part of my bachelor degree. Only offered to a limited number of high-performing students, the internship provided exposure to decision-making in the Queensland Parliament where I worked with a Member of Parliament and produced a report on an agreed topic. My final report received the highest overall grade of all students participating in the internship at Griffith University.

Jul 2015 - Nov 2015

Family Law Internship

Wiltshire Lawyers

Gold Coast, Australia

I worked with a senior legal practitioner both in the office and at court. Key responsibilities included communicating with solicitors and clients from both sides; handling key documents; and working within strict timeframes.
