After finishing his studies at the University of Pretoria in 1994, Riaan opened a franchise of business and computer training colleges. He subsequently decided to specialise in software development and kicked off his professional IT career as a Systems Trainer at CS Holdings, where he provided full time training in all Microsoft and Sun MicroSystems software development courses. Early 2000s he decided to dedicate his time on practical software development and became a development team leader at Financial IQ, specialising in financial products. He was approached by FNB to become their Head of Development of the Mobile and Transact Solutions division, where his team managed to successfully develop the new mobile banking services in just under 100 days, for which his team won the overall FNB innovations award for that year.Riaan's later co-founded a company called Brokersbuddy, where he developed financial analysis software and supplied IT support to brokerages.When he approached Fin24 for a possible JV with regards to a mobile live market monitor application which he developed, they decided to buy the company and Riaan became their CIO, driving IT strategy and ensuring successful delivery of all of their products and IT requirements.In November 2013 McGregorBFA acquired INet Bridge, where Riaan became the CIO of the newly combined company called iNet BFA, which is currently the leading provider of African financial data solutions.In February 2015 he joined Coronation Fund Managers as their Head of Information Systems.
