About Ria Kearney

Prior to that, Ria joined fashion retailer Primark as Sustainability Manager in October 2012 to develop and implement the company's sustainability programmes. Previously, Ria was Sustainability Manager at Tata Global Beverages where she was primarily responsible for the company's ethical sourcing agenda and managed the company's collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance which will result in Rainforest Alliance certification for the Tetley brand globally by 2016. Prior to joining Tata Global Beverages, Ria built experience of alternative models of business and trade within a diverse range of organisations in the UK and abroad including The Ethical Tea Partnership, BT and The Township Trust. Beyond brand and retailer engagement, she has experience of collaborating with producers, suppliers and local implementing partners, including within tea and cotton supply chains, having worked on a diverse range of projects within sourcing countries, such as Bangladesh, China, India, Malawi, South Africa and Sri Lanka. She has a particular interest in the role of smallholder, handworker and artisan producers within the global value chain and spent several years as a Board Member of Irish NGO Proudly Made in Africa (PMIA). She completed the Executive Program of CIPRI's Cultural Sustainability Academy in 2021. Ria holds an MA (Hons) degree in International Business and Languages from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, and was named as one of Management Today’s 35 Women Under 35 in 2017.
