About Rianne Tse
I am a third year student studying Architecture (BSc Hons) at the University of Bath, England. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, though I attended boarding school in the United Kingdom. The connection and exposure to different cultures, along with my travels around the world, has enabled me understand how architecture can serve as a bridge, both physically and metaphorically, connecting people of different cultures together. Through my experiences and travels, meeting people from different backgrounds have proved crucial in helping me grow into an outgoing and collaborative person, whilst strengthening my own skills and ensuring that I am proactive and take initiative in situations.I have experience working in both large and small architectural firms. My experience allowed me to work on multiple projects which ultimately cover all of the work stages set out by RIBA. I have expanded my knowledge on statutory laws and the building procurement process in Hong Kong, and look forward to opportunities to further my architectural knowledge and education in the United Kingdom.I have an avid interest in the History of Art, specifically in Architectural history and theory, including the role of restoration in historic structures. I am particularly interested in academic texts discussing theories of urban design and contemporary building such as "Collage City" by Colin Rowe and Fred Koetter, and how academic texts like this has effected the pedagogy of architecture and the context of the built environment as a whole.Another interest lies with sustainable thinking and design - thinking about the context of the built environment is more important and imperative now arguably more than ever. with countries aiming to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. It is important to reflect on buildings of the past, present and future and analyse them in a way that allows for future generations to successfully tackle impending issues which arise from a changing climate. This is proving crucial as not only are we as a planet facing an impending climate crisis, but we are also witnessing the world becoming more and more globalised, tending to people from different backgrounds and cultures coming together to work on future projects collaboratively, making it imperative that we start addressing this in the built environment. This ultimately changes the future world of design through the exposure to different vernaculars, but also ultimately promotes providing a backdrop where society can nurture tolerance and understanding.
