I worked in the Gerstein Bioinformatics lab on improving the current knowledge of enhancer function using genomic analysis tools in 'R' and the UNIX command line. This involved extracting information on current enhancer identification tools to develop a new gold standard for detection and using genomic analysis tools such as bedtools on BED and BAM files to identify potential enhancer regions in the genome.

Yale New Haven Health System

I worked with a team of student consultants to identify the top health needs of the health system's catchment areas and used this information to develop a system of asset-mapping for the health system's community needs-assessment report.

New Brunswick, New Jersey

I observed patient visits to genetic counselors and geneticists for prenatal, cancer, and pediatric conditions. Based on my observations, I prepared case logs consisting of patient history, behavior, condition, and prognosis. Part of my role also involved conducting research on genetic syndromes and entering results from whole-exome sequencing results into the hospital database. At the end of the rotation, I presented a rare prenatal case to the genetics panel as part of my final deliverable.

Mumbai Area, India

I conducted a behavioral test to support the hypothesis that subjects with Down syndrome had faster reactions to negative emotions than calming emotions by building a computer game and analyzing data in Excel. I recruited 25 participants and trained 2 volunteers to conduct sessions with subjects in Hindi. I was awarded funding for my research work and was able to present my findings at a research symposium for women in STEM.

Cohen Lab

I worked on two different projects in the Cohen Lab:1. I differentiated human pluripotent stem cells into cardiomyocytes using cell culture techniques. I was awarded funding for my research work and was able to present the research at symposiums.2. I produced and purified FGF-ELP proteins using bacterial transformation techniques.

Gary-Aston Jones Lab

I examined the role of the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine system in decision-making by pharmacological manipulations and behavioral testing of rodents and analyzed thousands of data points from behavioral tasks using R to reveal that the locus coeruleus played a critical role in decision-making.
