Riaz Akber is a radiation safety expert. He has a PhD in Environmental Radiation from the University of Adelaide, and a Masters in Nuclear Technology. He had been a Principal Research Scientist in an Australian Commonwealth institute, where he worked as Head of the Environmental Radioactivity Section, and Manager Control of Impact of Mining. He also held an adjunct position at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and supervised a number of PhD and Masters students. He has extensively published articles in international journals and as reports.At Safe Radiation, Since 2006, Riaz leads a team of professional staff who deliver solutions for clients in various industries, such as mining, oil and gas, medical, site rehabilitation, waste disposal and environment protection. He oversees the laboratory analysis of radioactive materials, the supply and calibration of radiation safety equipment, and research and development of new methodologies and techniques. He is also actively involved in the radiation protection community as a Fellow of the Australian Radiation Protection Society, a member and former President of the South Pacific Environmental Radioactivity Association, and Editor in Chief of the Journal of Radiation Protection and Research. He is recognised as a Certified Radiation Safety Expert (CRSE) by the Australasian Radiation Protection Accreditation Board Inc (ARPAB). Riaz is passionate about ensuring the highest standards of radiation safety for the benefit of workers, communities, and the environment.
