Research Software Engineer
Current• Engineer creating massive, parallel, concurrent data pipelines for astrophysics research with the South Pole IceCube Neutrino Observatory. Annual scale: billions of events, petabytes of data, hundreds of thousands of CPUs• Development on Distributed Systems and Full-Stack Microservice Applications: Docker, REST, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, HTCondor, Singularity, Apptainer, message passing (RabbitMQ, pika, Apache Pulsar, NATS.io), Google Cloud (GCP), OpenAPI, JSON, JSON schema, S3, MongoDB, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Infrastructure• DevOps: CI/CD, GitHub Actions (use and create), GitOps, pytest, Python packaging, semantic versioning, GitHub releases, Docker Hub, PyPI, auto-generated documentation, large emphasis efficiency through automation• Work with an international collaboration of researchers, engineers, physicists, graduate students, and post-docs. Asynchronous communication (remote, multi-timezone)• All code is open source and available via my GitHub (github.com/ric-evans)• (WIPAC is the central hub for the multi-national IceCube Collaboration, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison)
