Topics & titles for other seminars I both designed and delivered included negotiating, technical editing, proofreading for professionals, "Word Whomping: Speeding Up Your Work with Under-Used Features in Microsoft Word," "Querying Subject-Matter Experts Diplomatically," "Trapping Typos Without Tears: Proofreading for Non-professionals," "Surviving & Thriving as a Freelancer," & "Romance Meets Reality: Surviving the Shocks of Becoming Your Own Boss."Clients included the Editors' Association of Canada, the Society for Technical Communication, the American Medical Writers Association, e-Cars, the Guelph Women in Business Circle, & the Canadian Department of International Affairs.From 1986 through 1994, I also regularly co-taught two-day seminars designed by McLuhan & Davies Communications Inc. on writing, editing, & proofreading for business, government, & medical/scientific professionals.

Pre-pandemic, as my health allowed, I volunteered in various capacities for causes & organizations dear to my heart. Here's an alphabetical (by organization) list.At Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, part of the Sinai Health System, I served for a decade: first in the gift shop, & then on the information desk & as a tour guide. In each capacity, I trained other volunteers. For the info desk, I also wrote a well-received procedures manual. In 2014, I was honoured with the CEO's Bridgepoint Star Award for outstanding service. For the Canadian Diabetes Association, I helped write, edit, & lay out marketing materials for a national conference, & I presented learning & outreach sessions to community & corporate groups.At the Central East LHIN, I served as a peer co-leader for free workshops titled "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Illness" and "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain" (a.k.a. the Stanford-model self-management courses).For The CRC (a social-justice organization in Toronto's Regent Park), I served as a receptionist/administrative assistant & subsequently as lead singer in a popular house band. I'm still in that group, 40 Oaks, eagerly awaiting a time when we can perform again at community events & locations like Homeless Connect, drop-in centres, seniors' homes, weddings, & memorial services. For Oak Street Housing Co-operative, I've been active in multiple volunteer capacities, chiefly as a participant & as co-chair of the Member Selection Committee, which interviews & makes recommendations on prospective co-op members. For several years, I also organized the co-op's monthly potluck dinner, helped with our weekly Soup Night, & delivered our weekly bulletin. I now serve on the Floor Reps Committee (currently on hiatus) & the By-Law Committee.

Subject-matter experts who must communicate with non-experts were my favourite clients. I edited, proofread, indexed (where appropriate), wrote, or rewrote into plain language more than 600 print and online documents, from 2-page brochures to multivolume government reports. Besides scientific & technical editing/writing, I also enjoy working on marketing materials, academic & scholarly articles/books, college/university textbooks, & popular nonfiction books. Specialized in the nitty-gritty of copyediting, line editing, & proofreading, but capable of providing manuscript evaluations & structural editing.

Supported 60 tax professionals across Canada: edited, proofread, & ghostwrote documents (reports, proposals, presentations, newsletter pieces, & journal articles); designed & delivered training in efficient use of advanced Word features & in effective writing, both in-person & online; designed job aids; designed & maintained complex Word templates for reports; helped internal clients as needed with complex document formatting & language issues. Earned four "Thumbs Up" aopreciation awards from senior managers & associate partners.

Copyedited ^Canadian Who's Who^ entries. Oversaw transfer of production from outside supplier to on-site word-processing equipment. Trained & supervised several subcontractors to help input editorial changes.

Edited & formatted résumés for multiple candidates in Group Four's permanent & temporary placement divisions. Administered & scored applicants' tests. Occasionally coached applicants on taking tests at client companies & on successful interviewing. Prepared weekly payroll & kept company"s books to trial balance.

Edited, wrote, or ghostwrote all material for weekly cross-Canada company newsletter, policies & procedures, correspondence for company president's signature, template text for customer correspondence unit, g internal company reports. Helped with scheduling of photographers' & sales reps' store visits. After attending Xerox Selling Skills course, spent three months as travelling sales representative, consistently meeting or exceeding quotas.
