Process safety engineers offer technical guidance and support to BP’s upstream business globally. The Process & Process Safety Engineering team comprises subject matter experts in both process engineering and process safety engineering. Their expertise spans Major Accident Risk (MAR) assessment, HAZOP, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and fire and blast modeling.Key responsibilities include:Maintaining specialist expertise to support the company in understanding, assessing, and actively managing major accident hazards and risks.Leading studies using BP’s Major Accident Risk (MAR) assessment technique and other quantitative risk assessment tools, and providing technical expertise in HAZOP and LOPA.Guiding projects and operations on the application of Inherently Safer Design strategies.Advising on the assessment of fire, explosion, and toxic hazards.Reviewing process safety engineering work and deliverables from engineering contractors and consultants.Staying updated on relevant codes, standards, and regulations in process safety.Assisting with updates to relevant Engineering Technical Practices.Delivering technical training in one or two key areas.Participating in recruitment, coaching, and mentoring activities.Representing the company at industry, regulatory, national, and international levels when requested

Provide specialist advice to the segment VP Engineering, Process Safety & Risk, Chief Engineers, Entity Engineering Authorities, and TAs regarding technical risks for PSM, PHA, and LOPA and deviations from established BP standards and practices. Such advice and guidance includes:• Observations with respect to risks of engineering equipment/systems and recommendations for mitigation of such risks.• Assistance in ensuring consistency of policy and implementation on process safety issues across the R&M segment entities.• Feedback on requests for deviations (exceptions) to the Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs) and/or the Site Technical Practices (STPs)• Intervenes and escalates to the SETA PSM/HAZOP/LOPA unresolved process safety issues, gaps, and inconsistencies with segment sites when needed.• Support owners within R&M of the ETP categories for their engineering specialty• R&M support on Group ETP efforts within the engineering specialty, providing appropriate R&M participation and contributions by leading and building consensus through communities of practice.• Development of R&M specific ETPs within the engineering specialty• Overall QA/QC process associated with Segment specific ETPs. Familiarization/immersion of their technical community of associated ETPs, including technical content and usage guidance.
