Research Work -Design And Optimization Of Highly-Flexible Leaf-Spring Suspension For A Heavy Vehicle
Scholarshiped research work for an industrial Chinese manufacturer entity, Dongfeng Motor Corporation (东风汽车公司), with close interest from the Chinese Government, both sponsoring an academic effort to fully design an industrial vehicle with innovative features, amongst which my contribution went to the suspension system design and optimization. In this regard, background knowledge in structural mechanics, mechanical behaviour of materials, mechanical design and computational mechanics got to be applied. I own developed a MATLAB program able to output diverse information on the structural/mechanical behaviour of different suspension layouts being considered, for which an Elastomechanics Transfer-Matrix Method (TMM) is applied. This method shares the same mathematical core with FEM, however, given the revamped topology proposed, it is able to bestow a leading edge in a few performance parameters.

(by invitation from Professor Doctor Jingshan Zhao)Closely interacted and assisted an extraordinary group of twenty-four Chinese undergraduates, strictly comprising the brightest students national-wise in the field of Mechanical Engineering, on which was Tsinghua’s first attempt at administering a course fully taught in English. In this regard, I actively sought to provide interesting life applied challenges, weekly quizzes, homework assignments, extra tutoring classes, seminars and I was even trusted with the privilege of giving them a regular class on Mechanical Fatigue. All of these, with the ultimate goal of supplying the necessary tools not only to handle all of the course’s theoretical contents, as to promote their individual inquisitive spirit and capacity to better analyse and solve mechanical problems as a team. Inclusively, each group had a final project, where, after having identified a problem, a full-scale (1:1) originally designed robotic solution could be built.
