Hello there, welcome to my LinkedIn profile :-)A few words about me: I’m a Portuguese citizen born in Luanda, Angola and a Microbiology graduate from the Escola Superior de Biotechnologia by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto, Portugal). I also hold an M.Phil. degree by the University of St. Andrews (Scotland, UK) and a Ph.D. from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa after research work developed at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB, Oeiras, Portugal). Over the years I participated in multiple R&D projects a bit all over Europe, and typically at the interface of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have been particularly stricken by how living cells manage information coming from sensory inputs, the multiple forms of hardware they utilize to record that information, how that hardware is read and information is consumed and disseminated across multiple layers of molecular networks. I have been fascinated by how responses to those input signals are articulated towards effector molecules and cellular actuators, as well as the delicate balances that go towards the "orchestration" of all these events. After years of doing science, and having achieved important milestones in my career, I found myself wishing for other types of challenges. Those challenges I have found as a member of the Operations Excellence team at RHI Magnesita. As a member of a global team, I help to optimize local decisions in plants across multiple geographies while ensuring global system-wide awareness of key events in real time. I bring a strong background in Data Analysis, Computer Programming and Project Management that help me to get through those challenges. Additionally, I am fortunate to be accompanied by a great team of competent professionals and dedicated colleagues, that help to make those challenges that little bit more interesting! :-)
