Riccardo Genghini is another kind of lawyer: consumer protection advocate since 1982, he graduated at the age of 23 with a thesis on Consumer protection in banking and insurance, by means of computers ("reading" contracts and spotting abusive clauses). Part of his thesis was the analysis for a software that would parse the contracts and classify them. It has become a European Strandard: ETSI TS 119 512 V1.2.1 (2023-05) “Protocols for trust service providers providing long-term data preservation services”.From 2004 to 2023 he has been the Chairperson of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute technical committee on Electronic Signatures and Infrastructures: during his tenure most of the standards for digital signatures and for the eIDAS Regulation have been drafted and approved.In 2007-2008 Riccardo Genghini designed a software providing the platform for digitalising the issuing of new mortgages by Italian banks and for their renegotiation: the softwares (Pigna and Pesco) are still the only available for the Italian banking industry and have a market share of more than 60%. They have been acquired by Multiply Group (a.k.a. Mutui Online), the Italian market leader in business process outsourcing for banks. Thanks to Pesco in Italy the portability of the mortgage from one bank to another, after an initial failure, became a roaring success, and according to estimates, more than two million of consumers from 2010 to this day have taken advantage of Pesco and Pigna saving about 15 billions of interest payments to the banks.Currently he is advising startups and large enterprises managing the impact of digitalisation in their business, in particular on risks and opportunities of tokenisation.
